COMMUNITY COLLEGE SCHEDULES FREE SOCCER CLINICS IN PRESCOTT AND PRESCOTT VALLEY FOR AUGUST 10

Members of the 2019 Yavapai College soccer team will conduct a free youth soccer clinic from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. 

Prescott Valley: Members of the 2019 Yavapai College soccer team will conduct a free youth soccer clinic on Saturday, August 10 at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley. The clinic will take place from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Boys and girls ages 5-15 are eligible to participate. No registration is required. If possible, participants should bring their own soccer ball. All participants will receive a special soccer souvenir gift.

YAVAPAI COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO HOLD TWO NIKE VOLLEYBALL CAMPS IN PRESCOTT

All skills camp for Girls  ages 10-14 in grades 5-9  (all skill levels) to be held July 8-10; Advanced camp for girls ages 13-18, grades 8-12, High School & Club players to be held July 11-13

Yavapai Community College will be presenting two Nike Volleyball camps in Prescott in the next two weeks.  The “All Skills” camp will be held July 8-10 in Prescott.  The fees for this camps are $365 for overnight stay and $265 for extended day program.

The camp will accept applications from girls ages 10-14 in the 5-9 grades.  All skills levels will be accepted.

The second camp, which is named the “Advanced Camp,”  will be held July 11-13. Those eligible for this camp must range in ages from 13-18 (grades 8-12) in high school and Club players. The fees for this camps are $365 for overnight stay and $265 for extended day program.

The Community College’s Head Volleyball Coach, Zach Shaver, is directing the two programs.

There appear to be no similar clinics offered by Yavapai Community College on the east side of the County.

Purchase of six performance tickets from 25 offerings saves 15%; Director’s choice saves 20%

The Yavapai Community College Performing Arts Center is offering a 15% discount if you purchase six tickets from the 25 shows that are coming to the  Performing Arts Center on the Prescott Campus during the 2019-2 season. The specials will be offered beginning Monday, July 1.

If you choose a Director’s Choice package you can save 20%.  You can begin purchasing either package beginning Monday, July 1.

YAVAPAI COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL OVERNIGHT CAMP AT PRESCOTT JULY 14-17

Fee is $175 for campers ages 10-18; fee for those staying overnight in Yavapai College housing is $400

Yavapai Community College will hold its annual baseball overnight camp July 14-17 in Prescott.  The fee for campers who commute to camp is $175. The  fee for campers staying overnight in Yavapai College housing is $400. Meals and activities are included in the camp fee and campers are under adult supervision at all times.

The camp is for players between the ages of from 10 to 18.  Campers will be placed in a group matching age and ability.  

The introduction for the camp will be on July 14 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The camp will take place for the next three days from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

YAVAPAI COLLEGE SEEKS ARTISTS FOR “VISIONS OF THE VERDE” STATEWIDE JURIED ART SHOW AUG. 20 THROUGH OCT. 11; ORIGINAL WORKS TO BE SHOWN AT THE VERDE CAMPUS ART GALLERY

Submissions must be received by Monday, July 15, and artists will be notified by July 29. No entry fee is required; the catalyst for this program is the Smithsonian Institution’s Water|Ways 6-week tour, which has a stop in Camp Verde

(Yavapai Community College announcement follows.)  As part of the Smithsonian Institution’s Water|Ways 6-week tour stop in Camp Verde, the Yavapai College Verde Art Gallery is hosting a “Visions of the Verde” statewide juried art show Aug. 20 through Oct. 11. Artists are invited to submit original works for the show that “depict, address, and celebrate the Verde River” or that “are influenced by the Verde watershed.”

Friends of the Verde River, a non-profit organization based in Cottonwood, is partnering with Yavapai College to bring the Visions of the Verde show to the Verde Valley Campus. The exhibit welcomes all media, styles, and techniques. Submissions must be received by Monday, July 15, and artists will be notified by July 29. No entry fee is required.

A prospectus for the Visions of the Verde art show is available for download on the YC website at www.yc.edu/artgallery.

Opening and closing receptions will be held on campus at the Verde Art Gallery, from 5 to 7 p.m.  Friday, Aug. 23 and Friday, Oct. 11, respectively. Appetizers will be served, and the college’s award-winning, student-crafted wine will be available for purchase at both receptions.

Designed specifically for small-town museums and libraries, the Smithsonian Water|Ways exhibit began touring Arizona in 2018 and will continue its circuit through spring 2020. Camp Verde Community Library is one of 12 stops on the tour, and one of only two Water|Ways exhibitions in northern Arizona.

The Water|Ways exhibit, made possible in collaboration with Arizona Humanities and Arizona State University, is the catalyst for the Visions of the Verde art show and multiple other community events focusing on the Verde River, its economic and cultural impact on Yavapai County communities, and efforts to conserve and protect the Verde watershed.

PRESCOTT POPS SYMPHONY ANNOUNCES 2019-20 SEASON ON PRESCOTT CAMPUS

Will feature five Sunday concerts at 3:00 PM in the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center

The Prescott POPS Symphony has announced its 2019-2020 season.  If features five Sunday concerts at 3:00 PM in the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center. Season tickets at $100 will be available until the first concert on July 7, 2019: Youth (under 18) season tickets are $20. Reserved seating: $25 Adult, $5 Youth. ADA seating is only available through the Ticket Office: (928) 776-2000.

CONCERT SCHEDULE:

July 7, 2019 – “The Music of America” 

Continuing the theme of our Independence Day holiday, POPS will open the season with a celebration of truly American music and a walk down memory lane with such hits as “Stardust,” “Lazy River” and “Georgia On My Mind,” favorites by Irving Berlin, and selections from Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs featuring your favorite vocal artists and lots more.

July 28, 2019 – “Magical Tour of the Movies”

The ever popular POPS Chorus along with many of your favorite soloists join the orchestra under the direction of Maestro Darrell Rowader to bring you an awe inspiring selection of themes from major motion pictures. Elmer Bernstein’s “To Kill A Mockingbird Suite” plus selections by Henry Mancini and Andrew Lloyd Webber headline an all star production.

September 15, 2019 – “Pops, People, Places”

Climb aboard the POPS magic carpet for a tour of some of the world’s most exotic destinations with such selections as “Vienna, City of My Deams,” “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” “Belle of New York” and the unique experience of Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Symphony No. 2 (“London”).

December 8, 2019 – “Holiday Dreams and Traditions”  

The entire POPS musical family of instrumentalists, chorus, soloists and dancers comes together to present a spectacular program of the music of the holiday season. You will hear the traditional favorites with perhaps some different arrangements as well as some beautiful pieces that are heard less frequently. “Dreams of Fireflies” is a rousing romp based on the fourth movement of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.  An old English carol, “See, Amid the Winter’s Snow” is an experience in lyric splendor that will surely brighten your holiday.

February 16, 2020 – “Love and Laughter”  

For its final concert of the season, the POPS draws on its musical versatility to underscore the mood of Valentine’s Day celebrants with the lively “Humoresque” by Antonin Dvorak, and Martini’s “Plasird’Amour” to be countered by the sultry sounds of “My Funny Valentine” plus some old and new favorites.

UNIVERSITY WOMEN OF SEDONA AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS

Seven outstanding students from the Verde Valley and Northern Arizona share in over $10,000 in scholarships

The University Women of Sedona awarded over $10,000 in scholarships to seven outstanding women of Verde Valley and Northern Arizona. They are: Cynthia Rivera of Cottonwood, who is pursuing a career in Nutrition; Hayli Sizelove of Sedona, who is pursuing a career in Criminal Justice; Bertha Butler of Tuba City, who is pursuing a career in Nursing; Tiffany Burkhart of Flagstaff, who is pursuing a career Nursing; Emily Jane Aitken of Sedona, who is pursuing a career in Special Education; Colleen Lanssens of Flagstaff, who is pursuing a career in Hospice Nursing and Angela Saxton of Camp Verde, who is pursuing a career in Nursing.

The University Women of Sedona is a 43 year old Sedona organization, whose mission is to develop a fund to provide financial scholarships and support to women in furthering their educational opportunities to an accredited local college or university. All women holding an associate’s degree, RN, bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited institution of higher education are invited to join University Women of Sedona. They meet the first Monday of every month at Christ Lutheran Church from October to June.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE SUMMER ROBOTICS CAMP SET TO RUN FROM JUNE 24-27 AT CTE CENTER AT PRESCOTT AIRPORT

Program accepts 16 middle school students entering grades 7 to 9

The Community College Summer Robotic Camp is set to run from June 24 through the 27th at the Career and Technical Education Center campus at the Prescott airport.  The program is free and runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The camp admits 16 students to attend the camp from the applications it received earlier this year .

Working in teams, students will build ROVs. Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs) are underwater robots that are piloted from the surface. Each team will design and build a ROV to complete an assigned underwater mission. All campers will also have the opportunity to operate one of the college’s six FANUC LR-Mate industrial robots.

PRESCOTT CAMPUS HOSTING PFM FARMERS MARKET EVERY SATURDAY UNTIL OCTOBER

Market celebrates 22 years; great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch with variety of tamales, tacos, quiche, breakfast muffins, samosas, grass-fed burgers, baked goods and  fresh brewed coffee; College appears to host nothing similar outside Prescott Campus

Every Saturday morning from 7:30 AM – 12:00 PM MST you will find the Prescott Campus alive with residents enjoying a visit to the Prescott Summer Farmers Market.  The event is held in the Yavapai Community College Parking Lot D on the Campus.  The event will run every Saturday until October 26.

The market is a PFM producer-only farmers market, meaning every item sold is either grown or produced by the seller using Arizona-grown ingredients. Each week at the market, customers can find a variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, baked goods, eggs, nuts, grass-fed beef, pork and poultry. Local farmers grow a variety of vegetables throughout the season, including leeks, potatoes, beets, radishes, carrots, salad mix, squash, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and melons.

Customers can swipe their SNAP/EBT, debit or credit cards to receive tokens at the information booth. The Double Up Food Bucks Arizona program allows customers to double their SNAP benefits at the market, up to $20 per market visit. All vendors always accept cash.

The market brings hundreds of persons to the Community College Campus each weekend.  A nice subtle public relations marketing touch for the Community College.  Some persons on the east side of the County have urged the Community College to begin to utilize existing, or create new open space, on the Verde Campus for similar types of events.

NARTA GRADUATES 22 LAW ENFORCEMENT RECRUITS MAY 23

New officers joining eight law enforcement agencies across Arizona

Twenty-two law enforcement recruits collectively swore to protect and serve and wore their badges for the first time May 23. This signaled the end of their 20-week training journey and the start of their careers as peace offers.

The 22 new officers joining eight law enforcement agencies across Arizona participated in a traditional graduation ceremony for the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy headquartered at the Yavapai Community College Prescott campus.

NARTA Class 46 President Stephen Hunt, who is joining the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, described his class as “one of a kind” because of their shared triumphs and a few “speed bumps” that helped them learn and grow. “I believe we have been refined through this process. But I know we still have a long journey ahead of us.” Hunt encouraged his classmates to keep learning and to find the joy inherent in “answering the call to serve a purpose much bigger than ourselves.”

Prescott Mayor Greg Mengarelli, in his keynote graduation address, thanked the recruits for answering the call to duty and service. “I am certain you will live up to the high standards expected of you and you will serve your communities well.”
