Kids on the west side of Yavapai County benefit tremendously from the summer youth clinics sponsored by the Community College. However, the College does not sponsor any of these programs on the East side of the County. Unfortunately this appears to be another example of how little the College is concerned with the 77,000 folks on the East side of the County.
The following is a list of some of the great programs being offered by the College on the West side of the County in Prescott and Prescott Valley.
Volleyball Youth Clinic (Grades 1-8) June 2 – 4, 2015. Fee: $30.

Yavapai Community College President Penelope Wills said during a radio broadcast on Prescott radio station KYCA on September 30 that basketball might make a return sometime in the future. She said: “If we get five years of sustained funding, we will bring basketball back.” She did not elaborate. The recorded broadcast can be found by clicking here (as long as it is posted by the radio station).

The Yavapai Community College Roughrider soccer team will scrimmage at Mingus Union High School on Saturday, August 16. Warm-ups are at 12:30 p.m., and the Green vs. Gold scrimmage will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The soccer team is one of several championship teams developed by the Prescott based administrators for the Prescott campus. Over the last 26 years this team and others have played all their games or matches in Prescott or Prescott Valley. Some suspect that the scrimmage is an effort to reduce criticism coming from the Verde Valley over the cost and exclusiveness of the various athletic programs based on the Prescott campus.
This year the Roughrider soccer team is ranked third nationally in a recent pre-season poll. The soccer team has an overall record of 535-46-24 with 7 national championships, and 23 Arizona conference championships.
The Fitness Center on the Prescott campus is advertised on the Community College web site as the “best fitness deal in the area, with smart, caring support staff.” Residents and students may obtain a pass to use the facility or sign up for a class and take advantage of the equipment, swimming pool and the tennis court that is under construction.
