Drop in dual enrollment at Community College unusual
Fall, 2014 dual enrollment on Yavapai Community College is off 12% from the fall of 2013. The drop is consider is unusual because dual enrollment has shown a steady increase over the past five years. This was also the first year that Sedona Redrock High School was added to the dual enrollment program. The chart that follows shows the number of credit hours attributed to students on various campuses, online, and in dual enrollment high school courses.
Vice President Stuart Blacklaw said that the reduction is the result of two factors: First Yavapai College has asked the high schools to be “diligent about insuring student readiness for college level work.” In response, “high schools have made additional efforts to insure students are ready for these college level courses.” Second, some high school districts “chose not to offer courses that had been offered in the past.” There was a net drop of 426 credit hours from fall 2013 to the fall 2014.
