The Verde Valley Photographic Society will display its work at the Yavapai Community College Verde Valley Campus the second week of May. This will be the group’s first exhibit in 2019. The Campus is located at 601 W Black Hills Dr, Clarkdale, AZ 86324. The library is located in Building “M” on the Campus.

The “Well Dressed Wolves” contemporary Rock Band will help students celebrate the end of the school year with live music from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mabery Pavilion on the Verde Valley Campus May 2. The public is invited and admission is free.
The “Well Dressed Wolves” play what is described as Neo-Classic Rock. The three-person group’s home is Camp Verde. Members include: Travis Eaton (Lead Guitar & Vocals); Gabriel Rhodes (Drums & Vocals); Louis Occhiline (Bass). They began playing in Rhodes’ garage in the summer of 2004. They quickly found a chemistry that had been lacking in their previous bands. They were united by the influences of ’60s rock as well as the ’90s alternative.

“Travis Eaton, Guitarist and vocalist, began playing music around the age of four. Originally inspired by country music, he was exposed to rock ‘n’ roll after seeing a clip of the Beatles performing “All My Loving” on the Ed Sullivan Show. When he was ten, as a tribute to the Beatles, he began performing in a band called the Moptops as well as playing classical guitar in competition for the Verde Valley Music Association. Later he found himself playing with the band Recall alongside future band member Gabriel Rhodes. “
The second annual Emerging Winemakers Competition and Symposium will take place on Saturday, April 27th from 9:30 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. at Yavapai Community College’s Verde Valley Campus in Clarkdale. Early Bird tickets are $30; $35 at the door.
The program for the day begins with a Keynote Presentation from Arizona Wine Pioneer, Eric Glomski, who is the owner of the Page Springs Cellars. It will be followed by educational seminars that will be of interest to emerging winemakers and supporters of the Southwest Wine Center.
There will be award-winning Southwest Wine Center wines served in addition to live music, a great lunch prepared by Yavapai Community College Culinary students and an award ceremony.

In an effort to raise awareness about sexual assault and its prevention and in conjunction with recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Yavapai Community College, Verde Valley Campus will host a series of speakers, presentations, resources and more on Wednesday, April 3.
The presentations begin at noon and will run to 4 PM in room 137 of building M on the Verde Valley Campus in Clarkdale. The event is free and open to students and community members.
Presenters include the Yavapai Community College Campus police, Verde Valley Sanctuary and the Southwest Indigenous Women’s Coalition. Several area resources, including Northern Arizona Care and Services After Assault and Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley, will have representatives, information and more in the Maybery Pavilion from 10 AM to 2 PM.
According to advertisements in the local newspapers, Yavapai Community College is offering workshops to help jobseekers in the County. The first is scheduled for Thursday, April 11, at 11 AM. The Community College announced in a press release that there will be a College Jazz Big Bands concert Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood. The concert will “include the ‘Roughriders’ and the ‘Trailblazers,’ who will present a night of big band sounds that will send you back in time. Swing rhythms, soulful saxophones, and punchy brasses combine to make this an evening of classics that define the genre. Greats from across the ages will be performed.”
It also wrote in its press release that “The Roughriders are a music student-oriented big band, with a few of the most talented community members Prescott has to offer anchoring the lineup. With multiple music degree seeking students on the roster, the group is focused on the fundamentals of jazz as well as its historical background. For this upcoming concert, the band is specifically concentrating on the heart of the jazz tradition, the 12-bar blues progression, and its varied use in the jazz language. Selections include some of the most recognizable names in the jazz tradition, as well as some lesser known gems.
“The Trailblazers big band is an elite group of community musicians from all over the region, representing the best jazz for miles around. Among their backgrounds are several military musicians, school band directors, and other musical professionals of the highest caliber. The band was honored several years ago with a 1st place finish at the Reno Jazz Festival in Reno, Nevada. Their performance includes music from across the jazz spectrum, with much of their literature coming from the professional catalog.”
The Old Town Center for the Arts Is located at 5th Street & Main in Old Town Cottonwood. Yavapai Community College has announced it will be hosting a pair of open-house style meetings Thursday, March 7, at the Verde Valley Campus. The purpose of the meetings is to review plans for Building “L.” The College has explained that the meetings will allow interested citizens to review the building design with the construction team, Community College faculty and staff.
Community members also will be able to participate in a Q&A session.
The meetings are at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in Building M, Room 137. The Verde Valley campus is located at 601 Black Hills Drive in Clarkdale.
The Yavapai Community College Governing Board will hold its general monthly Board meeting beginning at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in the Rock House, 1100 E. Sheldon St., Prescott.
Members of the public who are interested in doing business with Yavapai Community College or the government in general are invited to attend a free conference Friday, March 1, on the Prescott Campus located at 1100 E. Sheldon St. The blog is unaware of a similar conference being scheduled for the east side of the County.
Yavapai Community College staff who are participating in the conference include: Sheri Denny, Sr. Procurement Specialist, Becky Goldsmith, Mail, Print & Distribution Manager, and Cassidy Grantham, Accounting Manager.
In a press release, the Community College states that “whether you are a business owner interested in doing business with the College or have had multi-year contracts with the College, this session is for you! We will start the conversation, introduce our staff, and explain the College’s current procurement processes and procedures, including dollar thresholds for different types of solicitations.”
The Community College also says that the afternoon session is “all about government contracting in general (beyond Yavapai College) and is sponsored by Yavapai College’s Small Business Administration Center and presented by the Arizona Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). This afternoon session is perfect for small business owners who know very little or nothing about government procurement. In addition, you will learn the ins-and-outs of maneuvering the world of government contracts at local, state, and federal levels.”
The Yavapai Community College Governing Board will hold a work session beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in the Rock House, 1100 E. Sheldon St., Prescott. The public is invited to attend. However, there will not be an opportunity for the public to address the Board on any topic at this work session.
The agenda for the meeting had not appeared on the Board’s website as of Sunday morning. Agendas must contain information reasonably necessary to inform the public of the matters to be discussed or decided. A.R.S. § 38-431.09. Agendas must be available at least 24 hours before the meeting. A.R.S. § 38- 431.02(G).
