DISTRICT GOVERNING BOARD MEETING AUGUST 8 AT 1 PM ON PRESCOTT CAMPUS ROCK HOUSE

Agenda for meeting published late on Friday before meeting

The Yavapai Community College District Governing Board will meet at 1 PM on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. The meeting will take place on the Prescott Campus at the Rock House. The meeting will begin at 1 PM. The Rock House is located at 1100 E. Sheldon St., Prescott, AZ.

The full agenda for the meeting is usually posted late Friday afternoon of the Friday before the Tuesday meeting. It can be found when it is posted by clicking here.

Often, PowerPoint presentations that are used during the Board meeting are not posted along with the agenda. They generally appear after the meeting if they were not previously posted.

PRESCOTT CAMPUS IS CENTER OF PRESCOTT FILM FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES JUNE 9 -17

Prescott Festival Executive Director is College Media Director Helen Stephenson

Yavapai Community College is the Center of the Prescott Film Festival that runs from June 9-17 on the Prescott Campus. This is the 8th year of the Festival.

The Executive Director of the independent nonprofit Festival is Professor Helen Stephenson,  who is also the Yavapai College Film and Media Arts Director.

All of the Festival programs, films, and events are scheduled for the Prescott Campus at the Performing Arts Center.

Among the formal sponsors for the program are Yavapai Community College and the Yavapai Community College Film and Media Arts Department.  (See http://prescottfilmfestival.com/sponsors/.)     Is it usual for a Department to sponsor an event?

You might recall that the Sedona Film School, which was the successor to the internationally acclaimed Zaki Gordon Film School located at Yavapai College’s Sedona Center, was closed down by Dr. Penelope Wills in 2013. Prior to its closing, the Sedona Film school was heavily involved in the Sedona International Film Festival.

Grades 1 – 12 in Prescott to produce Cinderella

College partnering with the Missoua Childrens Theatre for summer program (must register by May 19)

The College has announced in a press release that young actors and singers and assistant directors in grades one through 12 are invited to experience a full-scale musical production this summer when Yavapai College and Missoula Children’s Theatre stage the classic fairy tale, “Cinderella.”

The production will take shape between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. June 19-23 at the Yavapai College Prescott campus. Performances are at 3 and 6 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at the YC Performing Arts Center.

Additional post-rehearsal theater workshops in acting, improvisation and makeup are available during production week.

CATHERINE RUSSELL CONCERT IN CAMP VERDE FRIDAY NIGHT

Concert begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Phillip England Center for the Performing Arts this Friday, which is located at 210 Camp Lincoln Rd.
Camp Verde, Arizona 86322

The School District describes the Center as “a professional, well-appointed theater with comfortable, swing up cushioned burgundy seating for 424 patrons. Audience area is handicap accessible, handsomely carpeted with stage ramps and wide, numbered, well-lit aisles. Professional audio, lighting, rigging, staging, large dressing rooms, spacious Lobby with ticket booth and large restrooms.”

FIRST YC CULTURAL EVENT IN CAMPE VERDE HICCUPS

College struggles to find an audience for its cultural events in Verde Valley

The Wills’ administration, under enormous pressure from the Verde Valley, has been experimenting with bringing a handful of cultural events to the area. It has a huge cultural program on the West side of the County.
Music notesOn Saturday, September 22, 2016 it put on a program that featured a three-person jazz concert at the Camp Verde Philp England Center. This was the first such program in Camp Verde sponsored by the College.
Kudos go to Craig Ralston, Director of the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center, for his patience and effort in trying to find effective ways in which to bring these events to the community. Despite problems.

This program ran into problems. As with several other events, the College advertised ticket price for the concert was $32. The problem was that only 24 tickets had been sold shortly before the Saturday concert.

Dean Ralston said that the small number of tickets were sold despite “extensive marketing and promotion (postcards, flyers, posters, ads in paper, Kudos, radio, social media).” Given the sparse sales, Ralston felt the best approach was to make the concert “free.” He traveled personally to Camp Verde, Sedona and Cottonwood/Clarkdale handing out complimentary tickets to key business and organizations.

In the end and thanks to Raltson’s personal commitment, over 130 residents turned up for an excellent concert by the trio.

Yavapai College home of Prescott Film Festival

A great event for Prescott; full week of activities concluded July 24, 2016

The Prescott Campus of Yavapai Community College was once again the home of the Prescott Film Festival, which ran from July 17 through July 24.  The Festival ‘s executive director is Yavapai College Professor Helen Stephenson.  All of the many events were held on the Campus.

The Yavapai College Film and Media Arts Program arranged an impressive slate of workshops held in Building #3, room 119. The College said there were offerings for new and experienced filmmakers, movie geeks and lovers of the art form!”  There were professionals in the industry who shared their experience in the workshops.  The workshops were FREE.

It was a great event for the City of Prescott, which was essentially produced by the College.
